I plan on writing The Water Coolest for a very, very long time, but the only way TWC can grow is to bring on some top-notch talent.

Markets

+ US stocks ā€œrallied Friday to kick off November as Amazon led big technology stocks into the green and traders looked past a disappointing jobs report.ā€ (CNBC)

+ The 10-year Treasury yield ā€œrose as traders downplayed October jobs data showing meager job growth that was hurt by hurricanes and striking workers, and was far below what Wall Street was expecting.ā€ (CNBC)

+ Oil ā€œedged up on Friday on reports Iran was preparing a retaliatory strike on Israel from Iraq in coming days, but record U.S. output weighed on prices.ā€ (Reuters)

+ Bitcoin sold off steadily throughout the weekend.

+ The three most talked about stocks on WallStreetBets in the past 24 hours were: 1) Super Micro Computer -10.5% 2) Trump Media -13.5% 3) Nvidia +1.9% // +2.9% after hours

The market moves you need to know aboutā€¦

ā€“ Remember how Trump Media mooned over the past few weeks, but it wasnā€™t entirely clear why? Well, according to the NY Post, rumors had been swirling in certain circles that Elon Musk was considering a takeover of DJT. It would reportedly be rolled into Twitter. Unfortunately, the news wasnā€™t enough to stop the recent bleeding. Shares fell 13.5% on Friday.

+ Globalstar, not to be confused with Worldstar, had itself a day after it announced an expanded deal with Apple (perhaps youā€™ve heard of them?). The satellite company is AAPLā€™s infrastructure partner for its SOS emergency texting tech. Globalstar soared 31.4% on Friday.

Are investors sleeping on the smart home space?

Ryse

Finding the next big investment opportunity and getting in early isnā€™t easy. If it were, weā€™d all be rich. Even the Sharks from ā€œShark Tankā€ get it wrong. Like when they declined an offer to buy 10% of Ring for $700,000. Bet they regretted that when Amazon bought Ring for $1 billion

So, just how did Ring blow up and change doorbells forever? Retail distribution.

Weā€™ve talked about RYSE and their recent launch in 100+ Best Buys. But did you know they pitched on Canadaā€™s version of ā€œShark Tankā€ called ā€œDragons Denā€ and received two offers?

The smart home industry has yielded massive returns for early investors. And the next sleeping giant could be RYSE.

Donā€™t make the same mistake the Sharks did.

Intel is Dow bad

Source: Giphy

Stop, stop, heā€™s already deadā€¦

The Dow Jones Industrial Average did not have to kick Intel when it was down.

You see, DJ is replacing Intel (+7.8% // -1.8% after hours) with Nvidia (+1.9% // +2.9% after hours) in the 30 stock index. Itā€™s the market equivalent of putting your old dog up for adoption when you see a cute new puppy.

Not that the Dow had much of a choiceā€¦

Nvidia has made a pretty compelling case. Shares are up more than 800% since the beginning of 2023. And its market cap is second only to Apple ($3.3T for those of you keeping score at home). Not to mention, its CEO is out here signing t*tties like heā€™s Tommy Lee circa 1987.

Of course, it doesnā€™t hurt that Intelā€™s story has been harder to watch than Dallas Buyerā€™s Club after youā€™ve been off your SSRIs for a few days. Shares have fallen nearly 70% from their 2021 highs.

The chipmaker has botched rollouts of new tech and bit off wayyy more than it can chew with its capital-intensive foundry biz.

So, what does it all mean?

Intel fell 1.8% and Nvidia jumped 2.9% after hoursā€¦ but itā€™s not entirely clear why.

The Dow Jones is kinda like the participation trophy of the stock indexes. Itā€™s got just 30 components and isnā€™t tracked by a whole lot of funds or ETFs. Turns out it isnā€™t incredibly diversified.

Inclusion in the S&P 500, on the other hand, is a BFD. It means asset managers will need to go out and buy a ton of stock to rebalance the portfolios that track the index.

Warren Buffett: ā€œUh huh, probablyā€

The Oracle of Omaha dropped Berkshireā€™s earnings on Saturday becauseā€¦ well Iā€™m not entirely sure why Berkshire reports on the weekend, but I think Nvidia could benefit from doing the same. Imagine the watch parties in Murray Hillā€¦

Berkshire reported that itā€™s now sitting on north of $300B in straight cash homie. Whoā€™s going to tell Warren he canā€™t take it with him? During the most recent quarter, Berkshire sold down its Bank of America and Apple stake. Oh, and it refused to buy back its own shares, halting all stock repurchases.

What do you know, old man?

+ In a storyline straight out of ā€˜The Officeā€™ Google (-0.02%) execs held an all hands to reassure the worker bees that their jobs were safeā€¦ while wearing Halloween costumes.

Specificallyā€¦ ā€œGoogleā€™s chief scientist, Jeff Dean, wore a starfish costume to the meeting, while [CFO] Ashkenazi sported a jersey of former Indiana Pacers star Reggie Miller. CEO Sundar Pichai wore a black t-shirt that read ā€œERROR 404 COSTUME NOT FOUNDā€ with an image of a pixelated dinosaur.ā€

They were forced to address the concerns after Ashkenazi (can we all agree thatā€™s a brutal last name to have for the last 80 or so years?) hinted at ā€œcost savingsā€ (aka layoffs) during the search giantā€™s earnings call on Tuesday. This, understandably, for lack of a better word, spooked, the proletariat.

+ The US added *double checks notes* 12k jobs in October. And before you blame the Bureau of Labor Statistics intern for #REFā€™ing the Excel Model, letā€™s take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

October was a clusterf*ck of a month. The jobs report was impacted bigly by two major hurricanes in Florida and the massive strike impacting Boeingā€™s machinists.

FYI, TWC might be compensated if you click on the links above. So, what are you waiting for? Start clicking.

āŖ On Friday, ExxonMobil, Chevron, FuboTV, and MSG Sports reported before the bell. Plus, we got the October jobs report.

ā© Today weā€™re keeping an eye onā€¦

+ Zoetis, Marriott, and New York Times report this morning

+ Palantir, Realty Income, Hims, and NXP Semiconductor drop earnings after the close

EXIT

Friday, I asked, ā€œYou get $13M in cash right now, but you have to step foot on the moon in the next 10 years. If you don't, you're sent to prison for the rest of your life. Do you think you could do it?ā€

59.8% of you have no confidence in yourselves and don't think you can make it to the moon.

Hereā€™s what some of you guys had to say (and my thoughts in italics)ā€¦

  • Hell yes: ā€œAs long as Boeing isnā€™t making the spacecraft.ā€

  • No: "I don't trust myself to not procrastinate until the last month before having to beg Elon to get me there and ending up in prison."

  • No: "Still, people have done life in prison for a lot less than $13M.ā€

  • No: ā€œHave we ever really been to the moon...?ā€

  • Hell yes: "Elon will have commercial flights going within 10 years.ā€

And hereā€™s todayā€™s questionā€¦

Because this has become a discussion in the Morin householdā€¦

Is November 1st the unofficial kickoff of "the holiday season?"

Does this look like the face of a guy you should take financial advice from?

No, itā€™s the face of an individual who is financially irresponsible/dumb enough to be talked into spending money on a family photo shoot that he could have just done with his iPhone. So, act accordingly...
