Hey there weekday warrior,

Don’t call it a comeback because Napster never really went anywhere.

Enjoy the next 4 minutes and 18 seconds of blue-chip news and commentary.

Keep on snapping necks and cashing checks,

Stream on

I was today years old when I learned that Napster is not only still alive, but it’s a (legal) streaming service people actually use…

The file-sharing platform of the early aughts that walked, so Spotify could run, just came from the rafters with some huge news. Infinite Reality is overpaying for buying the OG pirated music app for $207M. No, that is not a typo, and it is not missing a decimal point.

In case you stopped paying attention to the metaverse in 2021, Infinite Reality is a “3D tech” brand that also bought the Drone Racing League and some other VR companies for some reason. It reportedly raised $3B at a $12.5B valuation earlier this year. That fundraise just reeks of Masa Son and ragret

So what is Infinite Reality’s plan for Napster?

Stick with me here…

They hope to “create virtual 3D spaces that allow music fans to enjoy concerts or listening parties together.”

Infinite’s CEO imagines “crazy environments that are really only limited by their imaginations.” He went on to compare it to pandemic darling Clubhouse: “Clubhouse times a trillion.” It appears he has not read through to the “Demise” section of Clubhouse’s Wikipedia page…

To be fair, the deal does make sense for a company that needs music streaming rights (which Napster has) for its metaverse concerts.

+ Imagine this… it’s early 2021, and you just got done prying the last roll of toilet paper out of the hands of a single mom at the local grocery store. You’re excited about the FTX account you just funded, shares of AMC just mooned for the 17th trading day in a row… and once again, GameStop has failed to capitalize on a once-in-a-generation opportunity…

Fast-forward 4 years, and Ryan Cohen is doing his best Michael Saylor impression. During its earnings call, GameStop $GME ( ▼ 7.01% )  announced that it would invest some of its corporate cash into Bitcoin. Better late than never, I guess?

Following in the footsteps of MicroStrategy, GameStop said “a portion of its cash or future debt and equity issuances may be invested in bitcoin.” The move that feels like a cry for help sent shares higher (obviously).

And the shorts be like “ah sh*t, here we go again.”

+ Who hurt you?

The last time consumer outlook was this bleak, P. Diddy was still allowed to grant Make-A-Wishes. The consumer confidence board’s measure of future expectations fell to its lowest point in 12 years. The print itself is well below the level that indicates a recession. I’m not freaking out, you’re freaking out.

+ It’s not a d*ck measuring contest, but if it was, BYD would definitely be winning. Chinese EV maker BYD made Elon its b*tch by reporting $107B in annual revenue. That’s higher than Tesla’s annual haul of $97B and marks the first time the DeepSeek of EVs has posted a bigger top line than TSLA. In Elon’s defense, it still produced more cars.

+ What Alphabet $GOOG ( ▼ 3.92% )  lacks in AI prowess, it’s more than making up for in the self-driving car game. Waymo, which is pretty much the only autonomous ride-sharing service in town (that doesn’t maim pedestrians on the regular), will expand its services to DC in 2026. Its other area codes include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta.

+ Turns out creating an app version specifically for people who wear Depends wasn’t enough to get activist investors off their back. Shares of Lyft $LYFT ( ▼ 11.35% )  popped on news that activist Engine Capital had taken a stake and would like to speak to the manager.

+ Just in case you needed another reason to root against Duke… the University is not happy with the creators of ‘White Lotus. ’

+ US stocks “closed slightly higher on Tuesday, with the Dow and S&P 500 notching nominal gains and the tech-heavy Nasdaq climbing just under half a percent.” (Yahoo! Finance)

+ The 10-year yield “moved lower Tuesday following another dip in consumer confidence that showed optimism on the future hit its lowest in more than a decade.” (CNBC)

+ Oil “prices diverged on Tuesday as a maritime and energy truce between Russia and Ukraine offset concerns about tighter global supply due to threatened U.S. tariffs on countries buying Venezuelan production.” (Reuters)

+ The three most talked about stocks on WallStreetBets in the past 24 hours were: 1) Visa -0.2% 2) Nvidia -0.5% 3) Hims & Hers Health -0.9%

Yesterday, I asked, “Did you ever do a 23andMe DNA test?”

75.1% of you answered No.

Here’s what some of you guys had to say…

  • No: “I was worried they were going to clone an a**hole like me… the world doesn’t need that”

  • No, but I did do one through another company: “Nothing like finding out your dad isn't your dad for the low cost of $99. ”

  • Yes, and I am terrified: “I am healthy, smart, beautiful and fertile female. Everyone will want my genes 😭”

  • No: “I was afraid of finding more siblings I did not want to deal with.”

And here’s today’s question…

Does this look like the face of a guy you should take financial advice from?

No, it’s the face of an individual who is financially irresponsible/dumb enough to be talked into spending money on a family photo shoot that he could have just done with his iPhone. So, act accordingly...
